Jan 31, 2016How To Upgrade ASUS TF101 to KitKat 4.4.4
Introduction
In this post we will cover how to upgrade an older ASUS TF101 tablet from 4.0.3 (ICS) to KitKat 4.4.4. We are doing this to breath in some new life to an old tablet.
Process
The process for upgrading to KitKat 4.4.4 on the TF101 requires the tablet to have several steps.
- Backup your current system
- Download One-click root
- Download KitKat 4.4.4 ROM
- Download Gapps (Google Play and Google Apps)
- Root Tablet using one-click root
- Install KitKat rom and Gapps.
Backup your TF101 tablet with software of your choice, I personally like MyBackup.
Download V0.42- TwrpyIndri Cutting Edge from here.
Download the latest KitKat ROM for TF101 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592890
Download Gapps (Google Apps) package http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=8553
Now that we have the downloaded files we need to start the process of updating to KitKat 4.4.4 let’s get started.
Connect the TF101 to your Windows PC and copy the KitKat ROM and Gapps to the microSD card on the device.
Unzip the one-click root and run the .bat file as Administrator to root the TF101 tablet.
Re-boot the tablet into recovery mode (turn tablet off. Reboot holding volume down and power button, you will see text appear that says you have 5 secs to press volume up. Press volume up.)
Once on the recovery screen you will need to go to “install”. Then select the KitKat and Gapps zips off of the microSD card and install them one at a time.
Then re-boot, the tablet will go through several moments of configuring the new OS and you should be good to go.
Conclusion
With this update new life has been put into an older ASUS TF101 as well as speed it up a bit. Test out your applications and install some new ones you have been wanting to try out.
